How to Determine Keyword Density Keyword Density is a very important factor for on page SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This guide will give you an idea of how to calculate that density on your own articles so you don't overuse your keywords and get google slapped. Keyword Density essentially indicates the total number of times a keyword appears on a web site. If you put a keyword in an article too many times, you could be penalized by Google for doing just that. This is what is considered Search Engine Spam. Keyword desnity simply put, is the percentage of the article that your keyword uses up. Take for instance a 500 word article. You use the keyword, "sports" in this article a total of 10 times. The keyword density of that article is calculated by dividing the keyword count by the total word count. So take 10 and divide it by 500. That would equal .02, or a 2 percent keyword density. This is a good density. Anything between 1 and 3 percent is okay for keyword density. If you don't want to count the words manually make certain you type your document in a program that has a word count functionality built in. Some programs like that are Microsoft Word. There are also keyword density checking software programs that do a lot more. They will tell you the density of all of the words in the document. If you are going to write a lot of articles for your blog or the web, then I would recommend getting one of these programs. Another site to check out is: http://www.grsoftware.net/search_engines/software/grkda.html, which is a software program and not a website. You can also used Google to find other tools. Some are better than others, and once you find the tools that work best for you it will make your life a lot easier when drafting articles for clients or for your own website content. |
