Internet Marketing Strategies - Strategy 4: Blog Marketing
Internet Marketing Strategies - Strategy 4: Blog Marketing Introduction When you are marketing a website, one of the strategies that is becoming more common, but not used by a lot of businesses is blogs. Blogs are an excellent way to get the word out about your website or business. Free Traffic from Search Engines When people go google something, a lot of times what comes up in the search engine's natural results are blog posts. The amazing part about that is you get free traffic to your site that could lead to traffic to your main website. Why is it free? Because those natural results don't cost you a dime. This can help offset any PPC Marketing campaigns you have going. Blogging Portals In addition to traffic from search engine results you can also generate a lot of traffic from those blogging portal sites. These are sites that basically post short snippets of blogs on the internet linking back to the original post. This benefits them, because they are able to have traffic to their site as a source of a lot of information that didn't cost them any money to acquire or produce. If enough people like your post from your blog, it will drive traffic to your blog and then to your website. RSS Feeds In addition to that, utilizing RSS Feeds, you can place links to your blog on a lot of Forums. No, I don't mean in a signature link. Some forum platforms, like the ever popular vBulletin platform, provide a method of putting a link with every post you make on their site. They do this by using the RSS feed functionality built into a lot of blog platforms. This allows the forum to have a link to your latest post on every post you have made on their site. Some forums even have a lot of active posters putting their feed link up for sale. This is how popular that method is. Believe me, I know first hand, that this definitely works. My blog traffic went through the roof when I purchased 2 links that had a total of 1500 posts combined. Blogging Platforms The two largest platforms are definitely Wordpress and Blogger. They each have their own distinct advantages, but each also has their own disadvantages as well. You can build a blogger blog at http://www.blogspot.com. You can build a Wordpress blog at http://www.wordpress.com. Installation Methods There are three ways to install a blog. You can install the blog for free at the blog's site like blogspot.com or wordpress.com. You can also build a blog by using some form of cPanel. The third method is to install it manually. cPanel Method Some hosts use cPanel, while others use Plesk, or some variation of the two. If you go this route you will need your own hosting account. No matter what method your host uses, there is usually something like Fantastico or some other installation program that automatically creates the MySQL database for you. This is the database that stores all of your blog posts, user information, etc. Overall this method is of mediocre difficulty. Blog Company Method If you use the blog website's method, then the blog company will host your blog for you. This is by far the easiest way to get a blog up and running. The only downside is there are limitation to what you can do with that blog. Most websites restrict the type of content you can put on your blog. This won't affect most people, but for those of you who thrive on controversial content, you get your blog flagged as inappropriate if you aren't careful. Manual Installation This method is by far the most difficult way to setup your blog. It also has a very nice benefit though. You can put absolutely whatever you want on your blog, and customize it however you want. This is a huge benefit, because if you use the free method, it prevents adding certain code to your site on some formats. This method you have to know a little about how to setup and get information about your MySQL database, and how to install a PHP Script. Either way, this is the method I choose, because I for one cannot stand being told what I can or can not do. Final Thoughts If you have any business whatsoever, this is the method you need to employ to market your business to both online and offline customers. This will get you indexed by the search engines quicker than any other method I know of. No matter which method you choose, the main point is to get your name out there. Make certain you post at least once a week. Post more if you have the time. In the end it will drive a lot of traffic to your website, and if you are running a sales driven business this could mean big money for your business. |
