Social bookmarking is more or less the method of going to a web site like stumbleupon.com or digg.com and submitting your site/article for review. Then other users of those sites can rate your review/site. This in the end generates a tremendous amount of traffic to your site, because a lot of people will want to know what all the fuss is about. A lot of forums will have posts for users that want free digg's or stumble's for their site. This increases the amount of traffic even more, because when you post the link you want stumbled, then forum users will check out the site, in addition to the users that see your site on the stumble site. There are several social bookmarking sites that aren't listed here. Some of them include Furl, Spurl, del.icio.us, reddit, etc. There are way too many to list here.
